Welcome to WELL!

Our Vision: An enduring local economy that provides health and security for our community.

Our Mission: To foster the creation of a local, sustainable economy in the Willits area by helping residents learn valuable skills and take action, and by partnering with other organizations to share knowledge and support projects that build a thriving community.

Background: WELL began in October of 2004 with showings of the documentary "The End of Suburbia." Regular meetings ensued, with groups forming and studying what we can do to improve our future.

In the early years, with funding from the Wallace Foundation, we hosted three localization conferences and provided seed grants to many local projects. WELL also helped inspire and has participated in the growing international Transition Town movement.

Since 2008 we have relied almost entirely on members' support and volunteer efforts. We continue to sponsor guest speakers and educational events, publish a bi-monthly newsletter, give local grants, and partner with other groups.

"WELL has become a beacon of positive change in our community and beyond. They have not just studied issues relating to climate change, peak oil and food security but have implemented concrete steps toward solutions." - Holly Madrigal, City of Willits Mayor 2008 and 2012-13
